in google.com. They will give you the reconmendations of good non fiction lesbian books you could ever compile. Amazon is the best place for it as well.
I myself prefer fiction. More interesting as a fanstasy or fakes to spice up the imagination.
greling actually read gay fiction! I thought for sure it would all be way-too-serious neo-conservative stuff. :-)
Good coming out/non fiction stuff:
- The family Heart, by Robb Forman Drew (or somesuch)
- Outing Yourself by Michelangelo Signorile
- Queer in America by Michelangelo signorile
- Now That You Know (basically written to give to parents as you come out)
- Is it a choice?, by Eric marcus, and in an easy Q&A format, good for parents.
Beyond Acceptance: Parents of Lesbians and Gays Talk about Their Experiences by Carolyn Welch Griffin, Marian J. Wirth, Arthur G. Wirth, Brian McNaught is excellent. Gave it to my folks back when I thought I was a lesbian. LOL
If you're okay with academic books (I'm a geek, so I love them), John Boswell's "Same Sex Unions in Premodern Europe" and "Christianity Social Tolerance, and Homsexuality: Gay People In Western Europe from the Beginning of the Christian Era to the Fourteenth Century" are really beyond compare.
If you're not up for the academic stuff to slog thru, I highly recommend "Becoming Visible: A Reader in Gay and Lesbian History for High School and College Students" Kevin
My favorite book about two young gay men comes from New Zealand:
The Blue Lawn by William Taylor
Then there's the gay-version of Catcher in the Rye:
The Boys on the Rocks by John Fox
I have Eric Marcus' email, if you want it. He's a rather nice guy. I was going to get him to do a speaking engagement for my campus, but we never got around to it.
How could you not mention the GREATEST gay poets?! Come on! "Leaves of Grass" by Walt Whitman is one of the most influential American writers of all time. Also, if you can find it, anything containing Sappho. Difficult to find, but excellent old lesiban poetry. No worries:)
