They chose my favorite design (the Daniel Libeskind project, with the big jaggedy tower thing) for the re-development of the WTC site.
I wonder what changes they'll need to make to the design to accomodate the city -- you know, like allowing for stability for underground traffic, and so on. It really piques my interest. "Hmm.... will they restructure streets? Where is the memorial going to be? Are they going to connect to the subway system, and where? What about during construction? How will that change traffic patterns? Will that tall spire distract birds and planes and other flying things?"
The timing is good. My love/hate relationship with this place definitely starts swinging towards the hate end this time of year. I needed something good to take my mind off of the cold and the slush.
