It turns out that a new development arose when I least expected it.
There is a new guy in my life. I met him last night, we talked, and we're going to give things a try.
... and the other guy is going to have to deal this time.
No, I'm not doing this just to get back at him.
I'm not even sure if I want to get back at him.
But I think things are going to be a little more interesting now.

You weren't dating the guy from before, and you still aren't dating the person you met last night. You are just getting to know him, which could lead to dating, which then could lead to being boyfriends.
So, you're not exclusive with the new guy, and not avoiding the last guy, etc. Just talk to everyone, hedge all your bets, and worst case scenario is you have more friends.

I'll have to agree with Mamma Jeff
I don't think you'll run into too much trouble as long as you are open and honest to everyone involved. Once you start leading some sort of double life, then you run into some problems. Untill then, remember there is grey! No worries:)
